Time and Shadows
Time and Shadows is a collection of time-sequenced images of shadows. The digital images in the exhibition are printed on prepared paper and reworked with liquid media and oil paint. The resulting images, while clearly photographic, acquire a painterly quality in the process.
While pointing at the passing of time, shadows also open the way to a deeper reflection on the nature of time itself. They hold an elusive ambiguous nature, which is the very essence of transience and change. They dance around "fixed" objects and fan them out into multiple images that open up the possibility of different points of view and different narratives. It is this moving through, and interacting with different narratives, that actually offers a chance to redefine time as a personal/interior space.

Nancy Storrow
Understory
The drawings in Nancy Storrow's exhibition Understory are interior works, based on images of the exterior world. The ink drawings and larger abstract pastel drawings describe Storrow's intimate conversation with nature. These linear abstrations recall the color, texture, and light across the land. There is a sense of unresolved motion, a shimmering of forms and shapes. Storrow considers this new series of drawings to be landscape self-portraits, reflecting her interest in the incremental changes that occur over time.

Phyllis Ewen
TERRAIN
Phyllis Ewen presents sculptural drawings that explore the fast-changing phenomenon of global warming, highlighting the effects of rising waters and parched earth. Ewen builds three-dimensional topographies through layering, altering and reshaping archival paper, adding paint to create transformed land and seascapes. Each piece consists of scanned maps, charts, and digitally printed photographs. Handmade jigsaw fragments further articulate the three-dimensional surface and ripple throughout the compositions.
