Shining Flecks II: Forms of Group, Flock and Swarm
Katsura Okada | Shining Flecks II: Forms of Group, Flock and Swarm:
June 28 - July 29, 2018
Opening Reception, June 28, 6-8pm
A.I.R Gallery is pleased to announce Shining Flecks II: Forms of Group, Flock and Swarm, an exhibition of paintings by New York-based artist Katsura Okada. The paintings and paper installations included in the exhibition are part of Okada’s ongoing interest in the representation of abstract organic forms found in nature. The title directs the viewer both to Okada’s process and intention. The powdered golden pigments or flecks deposited on the paper planes perform ideas of the infinite repetition, through minimal gestures.

Each year hundreds of artists come together in support of A.I.R. Gallery by donating a small work for the annual postcard show. Past exhibitions have included work by notable artists, including Mary Beth Edelson, Dottie Attie, Mary Grigoriadis, Barbara Zucker and many many more.
This year our post card show will be dedicated to immigrant rights and reproductive justice advocate, Alejandra Pablos, who was detained on March 7th for protesting against the Department of Homeland Security at a rally in Virginia early this year. She was released on April 19th on an $8,000 bond, but now must continue to fight against her deportation case.
Pablos has dedicated her life to supporting and protecting the rights of Latinx immigrant communities. She works as a Field Coordinator for the National Latina Institute for Reproductive Health, where she organizes to raise the voices of Latinas in Virginia for policy change at all levels of government on issues that impact their lives, women’s health care, and other social justice issues. Alejandra has been a staunch advocate for immigration reform and against mass incarceration. She is a member of Mijente, a national political Latinx organization, and has worked with many immigrant rights and prison abolition organizers throughout the country.
